Re: Current toxins scare in toys and children’s products

There have been numerous alarming stories about children’s products being toxic in the news lately, especially in the USA. We would like to assure you that all our Tyrrell katz products have been thoroughly tested by highly reputable laboratories to ensure that they are completely safe for children. Tests being carried out by some independent groups such as the XRF test are highly misleading because they do not test toxicity or accessibility of metals. They are therefore claiming that many products are toxic when in fact the metals are inaccessible and therefore not toxic. In other words they can’t come out of the fabrics even when digested.

The laboratory that we used to test the fabrics on our bags is SGS an internationally respected testing centre. We have spoken to one of the scientists at SGS (Kamilla Kubas MSc) and she assures us that the ‘Atomic Absorption’ or ‘Inductively Coupled Argon Plasma Spectrometry test’ is the industry standard and is the best way to test for toxicity in bags.

The fabrics are cut into small pieces, placed in a solution of hydrochloric acid, shaken for an hour and left standing for an hour. This mixture is then filtered and the remaining solution is analysed for arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, mercury, lead, antimony, and selenium. This test is designed to mimic digestion and test what toxins would be absorbed if a part of the fabric were swallowed. As mentioned our results showed that our bags are not toxic and easily passed all the European and US safety standards.

I hope this has been useful for you and if you have any queries please don’t hesitate to send them to us.info@tyrrellkatz.co.uk if you are in USA or info@tyrrellkatz.co.uk if you are in Europe.
